gone

At 3:47 pm on March 2, 2012 the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for western Ripley County.  By 3:54, half of Holton was destroyed and two people were dead.  All that remains of the old school & gym is a broken blacktop court and two forgotten hoops.  CGS.

scouting

Scouting & scheduling have become a major part of this shoot.  Today I visited Madison and Hanover, then on to Dupont, Butlerville and finally, Holton.  CGS.

john kinman

John R. Kinman played for the Vevay Warriors & the Switzerland County Pacers from 1966-69.  He holds the Vevay school record for scoring with a season average of 20.4 points/game and the Switzerland County record with a season average of 28.9 points/game.  He was also the southeast Indiana free throw champ - a record that is no longer used. John went on to play ball at Georgia Tech, before finishing his career at Mercer University.  As far as Sectional Championships - those eluded him.  CGS/MEK.

vevay

A powerhouse in the 1950's, the Vevay Warriors won their first Sectional Championship in 1926.  The 6th, in 1958, would be their last - as they were consolidated into Switzerland County in 1969.  The Old Gym is still used by recreational teams and the middle school. Vevay girl's basketball also has a long history - the 1926 team had more than 20 members.  CGS/MEK.

switzerland county

When Vevay & Patriot High Schools were consolidated in 1969 the Switzerland County Pacers were born and with them a long heritage of basketball excellence continued.  Nineteen Sectional Championships between the three schools (12 for SCHS - 7 boys & 5 girls) and multiple college recruits.  Senior Austin Clark hopes to follow up last year's championship with another before moving on to play for Huntington University.  CGS/MEK.

versailles

Built just in time to serve as home court to both the Versailles Lions and the 1954 Milan State Championship team, the Tyson Auditorium no longer hosts high school basketball. But on this Sunday, a 3v3 tournament brought back echoes of another time.  CGS.
