sectional 55
Just north of Hartford City on a county road as flat as northern Indiana can be sits the Raiderdome, home of the Southern Wells Raiders & host to the 1A Girl's Sectional 55 final. What was once Chester Center, Jackson Center, Liberty Center and Petroleum became Southern Wells in 1966 and this dome, now filled with good light & welcoming people, rose from the cornfields. On this Saturday night the crowd was small but enthusiastic and the teams vying for the Sectional trophy played like many who play for a championship - they were nervous, excited and often burdened by their own passion. In the end, the Lady Lions of Liberty Christian claimed their first title by defeating the host Lady Raiders, 29-25. But no matter the score, the joy in victory and sadness in defeat was as powerful as any in Hoosierdom on this cold February night. CGS.
